West Ham’s Douglas Luiz negotiations still teeter on the edge

The devil is in the detail: West Ham’s breathtaking and some would say audacious bid for [Douglas Luiz](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfers-enticing-douglas-luiz-rumours-persist/) appears alive and still kicking, according to a report this morning. The negotiations are finely balanced and all hinge around one point: What happens at the end of the first year loan.

According to this morning’s [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/douglas-luiz-latest-from-italy-on-potential-transfer-to-west-ham-explanation-of-situa), despite the suggestion that a _‘deal was in an advanced state_‘ being denied by West Ham sources on Saturday, The Hammers are still in the mix for the Brazilian playmaker and could still have matters in their own hands:

_“Douglas Luiz: Latest from Italy on potential transfer to West Ham – Explanation of situation” –_ is the report this morning from Sport Witness which claims:

_“Tuttosport, a sport newspaper based in Turin, reports West Ham have offered a €10m loan with a €30m option. That option would become compulsory under certain conditions, which aren’t outlined._

_Juventus aren’t yet convinced but that could change depending on what else arrives in terms of offers._”

Presumably the Hammers are aiming for a Jean-Clair Todibo style loan with certain requirements to trigger the compulsory clause: These appear to be the sticking points. On the face of it West Ham could yet triumph depending on negotiations, but all the time other Premier League clubs will join they chase having been alerted to Luiz’ availability.

West Hams deal therefore is teetering between success and failure. Nail-biting stuff which cynics amongst Claret and Blue supporters will claim is just another case of ‘we tried but failed ‘ in the making. The trials of being a Hammer.
