Leeds United open talks with Callum Wilson – striker will decide future soon

Daniel Farke seems intent on improving the Leeds United attack from last season. The Whites managed to score 95 goals in the Championship last year.

Joel Piroe, Manor Solomon and Dan James stole the headlines as Farke coached one of the division’s best attacking teams. He managed this after losing some of his best players in the summer. Despite being a prolific attacking unit, Leeds spent most of last season with just one striker in the squad – Joel Piroe.

The Dutchman was the undisputed first choice for most of the campaign. And it was mostly due to him not having any real competition in the role – Patrick Bamford was injured for most of the year, and Daniel Farke never fully trusted Mateo Joseph. This is one of the reasons the youngster will hold talks with the club over his role for next season.

Leeds’ search for a new center forward continues, the club hopes to add a new striker to Lukas Nmecha. This would completely revamp a team that had one available option for most of last season.

Callum Wilson is a name that has been on the radar since last season ended, the striker is now a free agent and can move to any club.

Graeme Bailey revealed to TBR Football that Leeds have made contact with Wilson:

“Leeds aren’t panicking, they’re letting the market come to them.

“They’re one of the teams that’s held talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and they’ve talked to Callum Wilson at various points this summer too.”

Josh Sargent is a real option

Norwich City striker Josh Sargent is a real option for Leeds United this summer.

It seems Daniel Farke is keen on bringing in one of his old players in this transfer window. Reports claim that the American wants to leave Norwich to play at a higher level, but his price tag is a problem. The Canaries are asking clubs for £20million this summer.

Can Wilson still play at the top flight level?

If the striker can stay fit, then there is every chance he gets to play in the Premier League next season. But the question is if he fits into the structure at Leeds United.

Comparing the statistics from last season, you can see how close the attacking metrics from Leeds and Newcastle are. They have a similar style – playing on transition, using wide areas and putting the ball in the box. Wilson might fit what Leeds United might do next season.
