Mark Cuban still believes in Nico Harrison

Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban expressed his confidence in GM Nico Harrison despite the heavy backlash from fans over his controversial moves this past season.

The Dallas Mavericks were one of the most talked-about teams last season, especially after the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The majority blamed Mavs GM Nico Harrison and the new ownership for ruining the franchise’s future with that trade. But now, the outlook is once again as bright as ever, after the team landed the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and selected Cooper Flagg.

Looking ahead, former majority—and now minority—owner of the Mavericks, Mark Cuban, expressed his confidence in the team’s direction and in GM Nico Harrison.

"You know, I let Steve Nash go, and the whole town hated my ass for a long time. Like, not a little bit. And he goes and wins two MVPs, and I got nothing back for him," Cuban said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

"Not every decision is one everybody's going to agree with, but there's a lot more to being a general manager. Particularly now, with the new CBA and the second apron, putting together and keeping together a team is a lot harder," he noted.

"You saw what OKC did, which was smart. They signed all those guys now, and people are like, how can you sign all these guys to that much money? Well, they signed them now because the cap is as low as it's going to be for a while—and they know it’s going to go up 10% a year, so it kind of positions them well," Cuban added.

"Niko's done the same thing. We've got guys—everybody but PJ (Washington)—on extended contracts, so we’re going to keep getting more and more room, because those deals are locked in."
