Former top draft pick breaks Summer League record

Fans of the Washington Wizards haven’t had all that much to be excited about in recent years. But on Sunday, former No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr gave the fanbase just that by showcasing some of the potential he possesses in a dominant Summer League outing against the Brooklyn Nets.

Sarr excelled at every aspect of the game on Sunday night, recording 16 points and 12 rebounds. But it was the defensive side of the ball where he made his biggest impact.

In the 29 minutes of action that Sarr saw on Sunday night, he was able to record a whopping eight blocks, which sets a new record for the most blocks in a single game in the history of the Summer League.

Sarr showed some flashes of his upside in his rookie season last year, averaging 13.0 points per game and 6.5 rebounds, along with 1.5 blocks per game. But it was too few and far between to actually lead to many wins for the Wizards, who finished with the worst record in the Eastern Conference last year.

Perhaps this breakout game is a sign that Sarr is ready to take the next step in his second season in the NBA, which the Wizards desperately need to potentially climb up the Eastern Conference standings in the 2025-26 season.

Either way, Sarr’s performance has to be encourage to a Wizards fanbase that has desperately been looking for encouragement from someone on the roster for years now.
