Cooper Flagg's trainer makes bold call after his Summer League shutdown

Cooper Flagg’s trainer, Matt MacKenzie, wants him to play the full Summer League schedule with the Mavericks.

After the first two Dallas Mavericks NBA Summer League games, the team has reportedly decided to sit their young star Cooper Flagg for the remainder of the competition to focus on training camp and preseason.

Although the decision hasn’t been well received by everyone, Flagg's longtime trainer Matt MacKenzie shared his thoughts on the possibility of Flagg sitting out the rest of the Summer League.

"That’s still up in the air. But with just how he is, I want him to play the whole schedule," MacKenzie said, per Sportskeeda.

"He’s loving it. He loves his coaches. He loves the group of guys. They just want him to continue to go out there and get settled into this pace and physicality and continue to get his feet under him," he added.

After a quiet debut, Flagg exploded for 31 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including three triples, in the Mavericks’ 76–69 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the Summer League.

He also added four rebounds, one assist, one block, and got to the line 13 times, converting eight of them.
