The Oklahoma City Thunder have been waiting for this moment: Nikola Topic is just months away from officially playing in the NBA.
After an injury prevented him from playing at all last season, Topic is making some noise in the NBA Summer League.
Speaking with OKC Thunder Wire, Topic talked about one of his greatest skills: his passing.
“I guess I’m just born with it,” Topic said. “I learned a lot growing up. Played a lot against older players. Had my dad by my side and played against older playmakers having by my side to be my mentor. So I’d say all of that.”
Topic just helped his team beat the Indiana Pacers 104-85.
Although Summer League games don’t really mean much in the grand scheme of things, they give fans and coaches a chance to witness what their up-and-coming players can do.
Topic is a huge topic of interest for the Thunder because he could be a vital part of the roster next season.
He produced seven points and 10 assists during the game against the Pacers, showing that he can easily lead the offense.
This is great news for the Thunder, who are already deep but looking to get deeper.
They picture Topic as someone who can lead the second unit, producing his own points, but also finding opportunities for his teammates.
Because he missed last season, Topic still has some rust to shake off, but games like this will help him build his confidence.
The league is always in need of talented and unique passers, and Topic seems to be one of them.
His future was already bright, but it’s even brighter after this stunning showing in the Summer League.
