Analyst Names Potential ‘Dark Horse’ To Land Russell Westbrook

According to most reports, Russell Westbrook is looking for a new home in the NBA, but it’s not clear which team he will sign with.

Writing on X, Jake Weinbach said that Westbrook’s free agency options “have become limited,” but he said to keep an eye on the Detroit Pistons as a “potential dark horse suitor.”

“Despite minimal chatter surrounding the idea, Detroit should be targeting a veteran point guard on the market to strengthen its backcourt depth,” Weinbach wrote.

Russell Westbrook’s free agency options have become limited, but I would not rule out the Pistons as a potential dark horse suitor.

Last season, Westbrook put up 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists for the Denver Nuggets

He still had his problems at times, but he also occasionally looked like a great fit for the team, so some people were shocked when he elected to pursue free agency in the summer.

Now, Westbrook is on the hunt for another franchise to play for, but many of them are hesitant to sign him.

For all of his skills and accomplishments, Westbrook makes bad decisions at times and has a hard time sticking with one team, which is never a good sign.

The Pistons just had one of their best seasons in years and have found a great chemistry and culture, naturally, organically, and over the years.

Would they be willing to risk that by signing Westbrook?

If the price is right, he could be a great backup player for the Pistons, but they would have to keep their expectations in check.

If the Pistons don’t make a run at Westbrook, who will?

As Weinbach noted, the market for him is running dry, so there aren’t many options left for the nine-time All-Star.
