3 unsigned wide receivers 49ers can still steal from the bargain bin

The San Francisco 49ers head into the 2025 NFL season with some serious question marks at wide receiver. With injuries and potential suspensions, their depth chart could be thin which is why they should sign one of these free agents from the bargain bin.

Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from his knee injury and while there is some optimism he could be ready by Week 1, the Niners should not count on it. Ricky Pearsall was dealing with a hamstring injury at OTAs, and Demarcus Robinson could face a suspension after pleading no contest to a DUI charge.

Now, Jauan Jennings apparently wants an extension or trade.

The Niners were not very active in free agency, especially when it came to wide receiver, which could come back to bite them in a big way. Yet, there is still time for them to make a move.

There are some premier household names still available in free agency, but we know that the ethos of San Francisco's offseason has been to save money. That is why they should target these three wide receivers who would not break the bank.

Jamison Crowder

Known for his many seasons in Washington, Jamison Crowder could be an interesting pickup for San Francisco. While he had just nine receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns last season, he is a guy with a lot of experience who could add some depth for the Niners.

His best days are most likely behind him, but it could be worth having him around for the first few weeks of the season if other guys are unable to play.

Allen Robinson

Back when he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Allen Robinson made a Pro Bowl and put up some very strong numbers. He had some great seasons with the Chicago Bears as well, recording over 1,000 receiving yards in both 2019 and 2020.

He has not done much since then and he only had three catches for 30 yards last season with the Detroit Lions. Yet, he could be worth bringing in for San Francisco to see if he has anything left in the tank.

Jordan Matthews

Turning to a familiar face, Jordan Matthews is still available in free agency. He is now listed as a tight end, but the last time he was a wide receiver was back in 2021 with the Niners. He has not caught a pass since 2019, but if the 49ers want an option who is really cheap and has some familiarity with the playbook then Matthews could be their man.

Ultimately, San Francisco may decide to give their younger receivers like Jacob Cowing, Terique Owens, and Jordan Watkins an opportunity. But if they feel they need some veteran depth on the cheap, one of these players could be an option.
