Championship clubs and French clubs eye move for Leeds United star this summer

Leeds United have shifted their transfer policy multiple times in the past few seasons. From Victor Orta to Jesse Marsch, almost every summer had its problems.

Orta went on a spending spree when the club were promoted in 2020. He did get some quality players that were great in the club’s Premier League journey like Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno. Under Jesse Marsch, the club focused on players within the Red Bull system including the likes of Tyler Adams, Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson.

Since Farke took over, the club has focused on low-cost, value signings. The likes of Jayden Bogle and Ethan Ampadu have fit straight into the first team squad for very low fees.

One of Victor Orta’s policies that gave Leeds some benefit was the drive to recruit young players. He signed Mateo Joseph, Crysencio Summerville and Pascal Struijk.

Leeds United could sell Darko Gyabi

But Orta’s plans had a lot of players that did not work out – Ian Poveda, Kristoffer Klaesson and Sam Perkins among others. Earlier this summer, Leeds were keen on selling both Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt this summer.

According to Football Insider, Darko Gyabi is attracting a lot of interest from teams in the Championship, as well as France. Gyabi came to Elland Road with a lot of potential, after being a shining star at youth level from Manchester City. Gyabi has failed to kick on and has spent the past year out on loan.

Midfield competition is intense

Gyabi’s time at the club might be up, he could not beat out the competition last season and had to leave on loan.

If he does stay around this year, he will have to beat Ethan Ampadu, Illia Gruev, Ao Tanaka and some possible new signings for a place in the first team.

Leeds must get a good fee

The club made a mistake selling Charlie Cresswell to Toulouse for such a low fee. Most of the youth players that have developed to be around the first team have been sold for very low fees.

The Whites need a sale badly this summer, as they seek to clear space within the club before next season.

Leeds will also inevitably add a new name to the midfield, reducing the chances of playing time next season. A move away works for all parties involved.
