Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand continues to draw attention from the Premier League, and Manchester United are again being named as contenders for the Danish international.
Manchester United’s interest is reportedly tied to manager Rúben Amorim, who previously worked with Hjulmand and is reportedly keen on taking him to Old Trafford.
[Speaking to A BOLA, Portuguese journalist Rogério Azevedo](https://www.abola.pt/a-bola-tv/video/hjulmand-na-premier-league-teria-de-ser-como-a-historia-da-melancia-2025071319182419599) highlighted the scale of the impact if Sporting were to lose their midfield anchor.
_“It would be a huge loss for Sporting, for everything he’s meant in the past two years,”_ he said. _“For €80m it would be tremendous, but still a huge loss.”_
He added that _“he’s only below Gyökeres in terms of importance in the squad”_, reinforcing the weight Hjulmand carries within Amorim’s system.
Azevedo also believes a move to England would not bring major difficulties on the pitch: _“He would adapt relatively easily.”_
Still, despite the admiration from Old Trafford, there’s scepticism around whether Manchester United would match the price tag: _“The hardest part, in my opinion, is seeing United actually paying €80m.”_
Sporting are understood to be on alert, and the midfielder’s exit could only happen if the full clause is triggered.
Whilst Amorim being a fan of the midfielder makes a lot of sense, and Hjulmand certainly deserves top level interest, signing such a player for €80m this summer doesn’t appear to be a major part of Manchester United plans, unless they’ve been keeping it as a surprise for later in the window.
