Manchester United find themselves in an undesirable position at this current stage of the summer transfer window. With just five weeks until the 2025/26 season, frustrations has set in.
Following their worst season in 51 years that culminated with a lacklustre Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, were destined for a busy transfer window involving a number of incomings and certain players being sold.
Like every single summer, United have been, or not been, involved in a rather busy period full of speculation and stories linking them with over a hundred players. However, Jadon Wilcox has only managed to sign one player in Matheus Cunha.
His £62.5million release clause was triggered early in the window and he became signing number one. It then became apparent that after Cunha with the Brentford star viewed as the perfect partner for the Brazilian.
The Reds opened talks with their Premier League rivals at the start of June and an opening bid worth £55million was rejected. Another offer of £60m then fell short. After a month of very gradual talks,
According to , Mbeumo is expected to arrive at United this week. It comes after reports last week that the 25-year-old was growing frustrated at the lack of progress. And it seems as though Ruben Amorim is also becoming agitated.
The Mirror have claimed that the United boss wants a deal for Mbeumo finalised before the clubs jet off to the pre-season for the United States on July 22. The Reds face Premier League rivals West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before returning to the United Kingdom to face Fiorentina.
At the start of the window, it was understood that United wanted Cunha, Mbeumo and a striker signed ready for the pre-season tour. Last summer, United didn't add Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Erik ten Hag's squad until August. That didn't work out.
A deadline of getting Mbeumo through the door is a clear message from Amorim. Failure to bring the forward to the club, to allow him time to settle in his new team, would be a major problem.
The additional stress of Amorim also being without a striker is making the matter worse. Unlike their Premier League rivals, United are going into the main part of their pre-season tour without having the bulk of their transfer business done.
