Celtics Big Man Is Turning Heads In Summer League

The Boston Celtics are having an unexpectedly busy offseason, planning for the foreseeable future without Jayson Tatum.

Meanwhile, several inexperienced and unproven stars are playing in the NBA Summer League and attempting to earn their spot on the roster next season.

Charles Bassey is making an impact on the team and its fans, and recently had a great game against the New York Knicks.

Writing on X, Daniel Donabedian talked about what makes Bassey so special.

“Charles Bassey’s stats are nice, but he’s also got great positioning and is making an impact on every opportunity for a rebound,” Donabedian wrote.

He added, “He could have a future in Boston given its dire center situation.”

During Sunday’s Summer League game against the Knicks, Bassey put up 22 points, 13 rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks during just 22 minutes.

He was producing a ton on both ends of the court and helped lead his team to a 94-88 win.

This is the exact sort of performance that could help Bassey earn minutes in the upcoming season and is a good reminder of what the Summer League can do for certain players.

Since entering the league in 2021, Bassey has played for the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs.

Last season, he averaged 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Spurs, playing in only 36 games and staying on the floor for just 10.4 minutes on average.

He wants to do more, and this latest Summer League game proves that he can.

His future path isn’t clear, but Bassey’s recent performance could create some great opportunities for him.
