The Dallas Mavericks recently signed Daniel Gafford to a new deal, bringing him back for the next three seasons at about $54 million.
Now, Marc Stein has dug into the numbers and has seen just how Gafford’s payout will work.
In the first year of his extension, Gafford will earn $17.2 million, followed by $18.1 million in year two, and $18.9 million in year three.
This new contract is a sign of just how much the Mavericks want Gafford.

Many Dallas fans feel that Gafford has earned every penny of the extension.
Last season, he produced 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds.
Sadly, he was just one of the many Dallas players who were bitten by the injury bug and only played in 57 games.
The Mavericks are a team in a huge transition.
Obviously, they lost Luka Doncic last season, and then they faced multiple injuries, including one to Kyrie Irving.
Irving will be out for all of 2025-26, but Cooper Flagg is coming to the team, along with others.
There is reason to be optimistic about the road ahead for the Mavericks, and Gafford will be part of it.
He worked excellently alongside Doncic and also did great things with Irving calling the shots.
What can he do in the new season?
After months of up-and-down chaos, the Mavericks are looking for stability and people they can rely on.
Gafford wants to be one of the players who writes the next chapter for Dallas.
This new extension is very generous and should keep Gafford loyal to the Mavericks for years to come.
