Fabrizio Romano Makes "Club To Club Contact" Claim As Man United Eye Onana Replacement

**Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor is “highly rated” by Man United, but as things stand, there has been no “club-to-club contact”, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.**

Responding to a question for the _GiveMeSport_ newsletter, Romano said that the Red Devils have not stepped up their interest in the Brazilian shot-stopper at the time of writing:

“He’s appreciated, internally highly rated by scouts. Let’s see if club-to-club contact will follow, at the moment not yet.”

John is not expected to cost a lot, with [**reports**](https://manunews.com/blog/man-united-transfer-news-john-victor/) suggesting that a fee in the region of £6m could be enough to secure his signature.

Onana’s injury may ramp up efforts to sign a new keeper

-------------------------------------------------------

It has been confirmed that current number one Andre Onana has suffered a hamstring injury that could keep him sidelined for six to eight weeks.

There is a danger that the Cameroon international will miss the start of the Premier League season, leaving head coach Ruben Amorim with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton as his only options in goal.

With that being the case, you would think that signing a new keeper will shoot right to the top of the club’s list of transfer priorities.

Man United could consider alternatives to John

----------------------------------------------

The Botafogo shot-stopper is by no means the only goalkeeper to be linked with a transfer to Old Trafford this summer.

Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez has effectively offered himself to the Red Devils, but his £30m to £40m asking price would prove problematic.

Amorim’s first choice is believed to be Porto’s Diogo Costa, but the Portuguese international would probably cost more than Martinez, with a minimum fixed fee of €50m (£43m) being required.

At the moment, John is the most viable option, simply because he fits into the club’s transfer budget.
