Report: Man Utd scouted Club World Cup star over the weekend, Aston Villa seemingly won’t pose transfer threat

Manchester United are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer and Ruben Amorim could look towards the Brazilian market.

Manchester United’s first Premier League game of the season is now less than a month away.

Ruben Amorim kicks off his first full Premier League campaign at home to Arsenal, but has received a blow ahead of that game.

Andre Onana has picked up an injury which looks likely to keep him on the sidelines for around six weeks.

Onana looks poised to miss the start of the season, and United’s goalkeeping ranks are now under the microscope.

Altay Bayindir’s agent has held talks with United amid fresh interest in the Turkish stopper, while Millwall are eyeing Radek Vitek or a possible Championship loan move.

Those plans are now up in the air following Onana’s injury, but United are certainly eyeing up a new stopper.

Botafogo’s John Victor is on United’s radar, with the Brazilian side seeking around £10million.

The 29-year-old has impressed at the Club World Cup this summer and could now land a move to Old Trafford.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon now claims that United watched John in action for Botafogo over the weekend, as he returned to domestic action with Botafogo.

John helped Botafogo claim a 2-0 win over Vasco da Gama, keeping a clean sheet as United scouted him once again.

United may want to take a close look at Vitek this summer before signing a goalkeeper, but John certainly appears to be a prime target.

Aston Villa made aware of John Victor

The report adds that Aston Villa have now been made aware of John’s availability this summer.

Villa’s backup goalkeeper Robin Olsen has left the club this summer, completing a return to hometown club Malmo.

That leaves Villa needing cover and competition for Emiliano Martinez, and John has been put forward as a possible solution.

However, The Birmingham Mail claim that Villa are poised to sign Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot from Brest.

Bizot’s move would surely rule Villa out of the race for John, but United may still need to move quickly after the Brazilian’s impressive summer displays.
