This move is part of a broader strategy to create the necessary cap space to renegotiate and extend the contract of their star forward, Jaren Jackson Jr.

Kawamura appeared in 22 games for Memphis this past season, averaging 1.6 points in just over 4 minutes per contest.

He is currently participating in the NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls.

Yuta Watanabe, a six-year NBA veteran, spent last season playing for the Chiba Jets in Japan, where he averaged 13.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game last season.

Yves Pons and Lamar Stevens were also included in the group of players whose rights were renounced.
