Brentford eye Mbeumo replacement bid as Man United prepare third offer

Successor: Brentford could sign Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson to replace Bryan Mbeumo, who is still expected to join Manchester United

United remain the frontrunners for Mbeumo's signature and are preparing a third bid for the Cameroon forward, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.

Mbeumo and Brentford have both grown frustrated by the slow progress of negotiations with United, but a deal, which would be a club-record sale for Brentford, is still expected to be finalised.

Mbeumo's imminent departure has left Brentford looking for replacements, and they have now identified Hutchinson, who favours a move back to London, as an option on the right wing.

Hutchinson stood out last term despite a difficult season for Ipswich, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 31 appearances as the Tractor Boys were relegated from the Premier League.

The 21-year-old joined Ipswich permanently from Chelsea last summer in a club-record deal worth up to £22.5million with performance-based add-ons.

Chelsea have the right to match any bid that comes in for Hutchinson this summer, but are likely to waive that option, having already brought in wingers Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian from Borussia Dortmund and Palmeiras, respectively.

Hutchinson wants to play Premier League football again next season, and with Mbeumo set to leave, the England Under-21 international would play a key role under new Brentford head coach Keith Andrews.

Hutchinson would become Brentford's fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Antoni Milambo, Caoimhin Kelleher and Michael Kayode. Jordan Henderson is also joining on a two-year contract after leaving Ajax 12 months early.

There has yet to be any club-to-club contact between Brentford and Ipswich over a potential deal for Hutchinson, however.
