John McGinn has been heavily linked with a move to Everton over the last few weeks.

The Aston Villa captain has been a huge influence on proceedings at Villa Park in recent years, but he could now be about to make a surprise departure this summer.

Everton have been chasing McGinn recently, but Unai Emery’s side are thought to be extremely reluctant to sell the Scottish international.

David Moyes is keen to add his countryman to his midfield ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign, as he bids to lift the Toffees back into the top half of the Premier League table.

A move to Everton could give McGinn’s career a shot in the arm

Everton have seen their attempts to land McGinn met with a firm response from Villa so far, but Moyes will surely still be trying to convince the 30-year-old to join him on Merseyside.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The former Hibernian man has been with the second city outfit for almost seven years now, and in that time, he has become one of their most indispensable players.

However, Moyes will be hoping that he may be able to lure McGinn away with the promise of a change of scenery and a chance to once again join a hugely progressive project.

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that a move to L5 could provide McGinn’s career with a shot in the arm, with the midfielder set to turn 31 in October.

“I think it’d be a boost for his career,” King said.

“He’s been at Villa for several years now, and sometimes you need a change of club. I think this would be a decent move for McGinn and a good move for Everton too.”

McGinn would be a great replacement for Doucoure

McGinn would be an ideal replacement for Abdoulaye Doucoure, if Moyes can tempt him into making the move.

The Mali international left the Toffees upon the expiry of his contract, and he leaves a big whole in the side which will need to be filled.

McGinn’s Aston Villa stats.

McGinn is the kind of midfielder who boasts invaluable versatility, and he won’t let you down in countless different roles in the middle of the park.

He also possesses a genuine top-level quality and is capable of picking a pass to unlock a defence.

Losing Doucoure was a blow, but if Everton could snatch the Villa man away from the West Midlands, he would quickly be forgotten about.
