Former Hibs head coach Jack Ross handed key leadership role at Newcastle

Ross, who managed Hibs between November 2019 and December 2021, will take on a senior leadership role aimed at developing and embedding a consistent sporting philosophy across the men’s, women’s and academy programmes.

He will report to the club’s soon-to-be-appointed sporting director and operate within Newcastle’s Football Directorate.

The 48-year-old initially joined Newcastle in March 2023 as head of coach development in the club’s academy. He later moved into the role of head of strategic technical football partnerships, where he provided mentorship and strategic support to key technical staff.

In his new position, Ross will oversee the club’s player loan and emerging talent strategy, lead on the development of strategic relationships with other clubs, and help to establish new football development and talent pathway initiatives both in the UK and overseas.

Speaking following his appointment, Ross said: “I am delighted to move to the role of head of football strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to help the club build on the outstanding progress and successes it has achieved on and off the pitch in recent seasons.

"We have incredibly high-calibre staff here across multiple pillars of the club, and I am looking forward to supporting them in this new position.”

Ross managed Hibs for 91 matches, leading the team to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership in 2021 as well as the Scottish Cup final and League Cup semi-finals, losing out to St Johnstone in both.

He left the club in December 2021 after a poor run of form, despite taking Hibs to the League Cup final after a stunning 3-1 semi-final victory over Rangers at Hampden.

Ross took the reins at Dundee United but lasted just seven matches, and was relieved of his duties after a 9-0 home defeat by Celtic, which came less than three weeks after a 7-0 defeat by AZ Alkmaar in Europe.
