Manchester United-linked striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly taken strong action in an attempt to speed up his permanent exit from Napoli this summer.
Ruben Amorim and United chiefs has been busy in the market already, quickly landing Matheus Cunha before diverting their attention towards Bryan Mbeumo. The winger has still not officially signed from Brentford though there is still time before the club fly from the UK to fulfil their pre-season schedule.
But the one area they have not covered through signings yet is a new striker. They missed out Liam Delap to Chelsea at the start of the summer and it remains a problem to be solved having finished last Premier League season with a goal difference of minus one.
Osimhen is one of several potential targets linked in recent weeks as his time in Italy could finally come to an end, though it would appear United are seriously on the back foot if they had any intention of recruiting the 26-year-old. It has been widely reported how Galatasaray, the club he spent last season on loan with, are pushing for a permanent reunion.
Journalists Nicolo Schira and Yagiz Sabuncuoglu have reiterated this suggestion but have also both added new information as to the drastic steps the striker is personally taking to make sure a permanent move to Turkey goes through.
Osimhen has apparently informed Napoli that he will not report for pre-season training under Antonio Conte, has refused to undergo medical testing with the club and has refused to ever wear their badge again.
It is a situation that mirrors the current saga over another United-linked striker, Viktor Gyokeres. Having rejected anyone's interest but Arsenal's, he has refused to meet up with Sporting CP for pre-season and as a result has been threatened with disciplinary action.
It remains to be seen how Napoli will react to their man's alleged insubordination.
The Naples and Istanbul clubs seem to be locked in intense negotiations at this stage. The fee demanded is €75m (£67m) and whilst Galatasaray are willing to pay this, it comes down to the structure of the deal.
Napoli president Aurelio Di Laurentiis is claimed to have tried to insert a 20 percent sell-on clause that has further stalled matters.
Meanwhile, United are onlookers to these reports that Osimhen has his mind set on Galatasaray alone.
The Red Devils continue to be linked with strikers both domestically and abroad, whether they be attached to clubs or free agents, but the Manchester Evening News understands that no concrete bids have been submitted.
Therefore the striker search is likely to go deep into the window, which concludes on September 1.
