Arsenal have reignited their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, with fresh reports from Germany indicating that a deal could be done for under €70 million (£61m). Journalist Guido Schäfer shared the update on X, suggesting Leipzig are now open to negotiating a reduced transfer fee, much to the excitement of the Arsenal fanbase.
The 22-year-old Dutch international, who came through Barcelona’s La Masia and impressed at PSV Eindhoven, has long been on Arsenal’s radar. Mikel Arteta’s side have reportedly scouted him extensively over the past few seasons, and with Simons now said to be keen on a move to the Premier League, the Gunners could be well-positioned to land their target.
According to The Athletic, Simons has grown uncomfortable in Germany and is seeking a new challenge, opening the door to a potential switch to North London. While Bayern Munich, Tottenham, and Newcastle are also monitoring the situation, Bild claims that interest from other clubs has been quieter than expected, potentially giving Arsenal an edge in negotiations.

Simons’ versatility is a key asset, capable of playing as a No. 10, No. 8, or on either wing. Last season, he tallied 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 appearances for Leipzig.

Arsenal’s renewed interest comes amid a busy summer window, with the club already landing Noni Madueke from Chelsea for £52 million, Christhian Mosquera from Valencia for £19 million, and moving closer to completing a £65.5 million deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to TBR Football, Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta is leading negotiations for Simons, working to reduce Leipzig’s initial €80m valuation, which included add-ons. Schafer’s latest update indicates that a fee in the region of £50-60 million could now be sufficient to secure the Dutch star.
However, the potential signing has raised questions about the development of teenage sensation Ethan Nwaneri, who is expected to sign a new long-term contract. FootballFanCast highlighted concerns that Simons’ arrival could limit Nwaneri’s pathway into the first team, especially in the attacking midfield role already occupied by captain Martin Odegaard.
Despite those concerns, Simons’ Premier League ambition, versatility, and creative spark make him a strong fit for Arteta’s evolving project. His profile aligns with Arsenal’s strategy of investing in high-potential young talent who can contribute immediately and grow with the squad.
