Mamardashvili opens up on why he joined Liverpool

Giorgi Mamardashvili has shared the pride and purpose behind his decision to join Liverpool.

He described it as the start of a dream he has carried since childhood.

The Georgian goalkeeper arrived this month from Valencia and immediately felt the gravity of wearing the club’s badge.

“When I agreed to Liverpool’s offer last summer, I felt something big was beginning,” he said in an interview with the club’s media.

“Now I truly understand what it means to be Liverpool’s player.”

Even before stepping onto the pitch at Deepdale for his first pre-season minutes, Mamardashvili had watched every game of Liverpool’s title-winning campaign with anticipation.

“I watched all the games with a different feeling,” he admitted.

“Like I was already part of the team.”

His arrival also came during a time of shared grief following the passing of Diogo Jota.

He spoke about how the squad supported each other and made him feel welcome:

“Here is like a big family. We are not just a team, we are people who care about each other.”

Mamardashvili on building his own goalkeeper legacy

Mamardashvili knows he steps into a club with a rich tradition of iconic goalkeepers, from Jerzy Dudek to Alisson Becker.

He doesn’t shy away from that challenge instead, he welcomes it.

“Liverpool has a big goalkeeper legacy and I want to try to write my own chapter,” he said.

He also expressed admiration for Alisson and the chance to learn from him daily:

“He’s one of the best in the world. I can’t wait to work with him.”

The 24-year-old credits Valencia with shaping him into the player he is now, but he’s clear that Anfield offers the next step.

“My journey started in Georgia, on the small pitches there. Now I’m here in the biggest club in Premier League history,” he explained.

For Mamardashvili, the move is about more than personal ambition.

It’s about carrying the pride of Georgia into every match and giving everything to earn the trust of Liverpool supporters.
