Manchester United are the 'most active club' along with Newcastle United in the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike this summer, according to journalist Abdellah Boulma.
The Red Devils have been concentrating on deals for Matheus Cunha and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo so far during the transfer window, with the former signed and negotiations ongoing to bring the latter to Old Trafford, but now they are ready to battle with Newcastle for another attacking addition.
Next, attentions could turn to a new striker with manager Ruben Amorim already set to miss out on his reported top target, Viktor Gyokeres, who is on the verge of joining Premier League rivals, Arsenal.

With Gyokeres out of reach after he decided to prioritise Champions League football, United look to have turned their attentions to Ekitike instead, according to Boulma on X.
According to the journalist, the Red Devils and Newcastle are the 'most active' clubs for a deal, with Chelsea continuing to monitor the Frenchman's situation despite already adding Liam Delap and Joao Pedro to their own attack this summer.
It is also said that Liverpool have 'taken a backseat' in the race for the 'elite' 23-year-old, with Arne Slot not viewing him as a priority despite the fact that the striker is open to a move to the Premier League.

At a time when many Premier League clubs are looking for a new striker, it is no surprise that Ekitike is getting more than just admiring glances from some of the top English clubs.
The 6 ft 3 striker is quick and has shown he has a keen eye for a goal during his time in Germany. While Man United's interest is clearly concrete, Newcastle came close to signing Ekitike twice prior to his move to Frankfurt and have Champions League football on offer - something which could give the Magpies an advantage.

Agreeing a fee could be a major hurdle to overcome however, with the Telegraph reporting that the player has an £86m release clause with the Bundesliga outfit.
