Leeds United missed out on a huge opportunity to tie down one of their first team stars this summer. Since then, the club have not looked back.
Junior Firpo left Leeds on a free transfer when his contract expired. Many people around the club already expected the left back to leave at the end of his deal. Leeds did everything to keep him, including a new contract offer. Firpo decided not to sign, and will reportedly head back to Spain.

Leeds have now moved quickly to tie down one of their best players from last season. Dan James has signed a new four-year deal at Elland Road. The winger has been one of the best performers at the club since he returned to West Yorkshire.
The new contract comes at the best possible time, as James’ experience will be needed when the Premier League kicks off next month.
Player was desperate to stay
After signing the deal, his first words to LUTV were about how he felt like he was at home at Leeds United:
“I’m obviously very pleased, it’s a massive day for me and my family,” he began.
“I’m glad it’s been done so early in pre-season and it’s nice to just settle now and yeah, I am just excited for the future.
“So I am absolutely delighted to extend my contract here, it definitely feels like home. It’s an amazing club and I can’t wait for the coming years. I’ve got a lot to give as a player and hopeful we’ll go on to bigger things.”
Based off last season, it is a well earned deal for the Welshman
Dan James was a crucial part of why Leeds kept themselves in the race for promotion and the title in the middle of the season. When the rest of the attack was misfiring, he stepped up with crucial goals to keep the Whites on the tails of Burnley.

Unfortunately an injury ruled James out of the final weeks of the season; but the Welshman still had 12 goals and nine assists. The 27-year old was also voted as the club’s Player of the Season.
