Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been tough to cover since entering the NFL in 2020, and his play has earned high praise from a Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver and ESPN analyst Randy Moss, who believes Jefferson could surpass even his own legacy.
In a video interview released Saturday by TMZ Sports, Moss was asked about Jefferson and his chances of being the best wide receiver to play for the Vikings. Based on what Moss has seen, he believes that when Jefferson’s career is done, he could be mentioned in the same breath as Moss and potentially surpass him.
“I think Justin Jefferson is on pace to be arguably the greatest ever and definitely the greatest Viking to ever do it,” Moss said.
Moss backed up his statement by saying Jefferson was a complete player and that he is always a threat to make an explosive play no matter where he is on the field. Moss added that the shift in offensive philosophies in which teams throw the ball more has paved the way for Jefferson to succeed.
Jefferson’s 10 touchdown receptions tied him for sixth in the league last season. He currently has 40 career touchdown receptions, placing him 228th in league history. The numbers will go up, but Moss said that the best way for Jefferson to cement his legacy as the greatest ever to play the position would be for him to score more touchdowns.
“I think I need to see more of Justin getting in that box,” Moss said. “I think I heard Cris Carter talking the other day about somebody calling him underrated, but he’s fourth all-time of getting in that end zone. I think in our position, it is not about the yards. The yards are what gets you the likes and the hearts and all of that. But if you want to really be legendary, this is speaking for all wide receivers, not just Justin Jefferson, you have got to find ways to get in that end zone and bring the fans out of the stands and up out of their seats.”
