Manchester United might have just ruined David Moyes' attempts to sign £20m attacker for Everton - opinion

Manchester United might now cause a problem for their old boss David Moyes over at Everton.

Despite sealing a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers early in the summer, Man United are making slow progress in pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

United had a bid totalling £62.5m rejected just over two weeks ago, with Brentford demanding more up front for their star forward.

Brentford want £60m guaranteed for Mbeumo, but United’s bid was £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons.

Therefore it remains to be seen when and if United will reach a deal with Brentford for the Cameroon international to head to Old Trafford.

But if they do, it could end up having an adverse effect on Everton’s transfer plans.

Brentford want to sign Everton target Omari Hutchinson if they sell Bryan Mbeumo

TBR Football recently revealed that Everton are interested in signing Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town.

Everton have already welcomed Thierno Barry to the club from Villarreal to strengthen their attacking options ahead of their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

And now they could target Hutchinson as well as West Brom’s Tom Fellows in order to give David Moyes further depth in attack.

However, posting his update on X, Fabrizio Romano has just reported that Brentford are now considering a move for Hutchinson to replace Mbeumo.

Brentford are yet to make an approach to Ipswich Town, who paid £20m for the winger last season.

But if Mbeumo does indeed head to Manchester, then Everton might face some unwelcome competition for Hutchinson.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea winger made 32 appearances across all competitions for Kieran McKenna last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Kieran McKenna was impressed by Omari Hutchinson’s mentality last season

Speaking after Hutchinson had just faced Arsenal and Chelsea in December, two of the winger’s former sides, McKenna was full of praise for the 21-year-old.

McKenna seemed bemused that Arsenal’s fans had given Hutchinson a ‘tough time’ upon his return, and he seemed buoyed by the potential the youngster was showing in all quarters.

Speaking about Hutchinson’s reaction, McKenna said: “I’m really pleased, it’s been a big few days for him.

“He got a tough time of it the other night [at Arsenal], to be honest, I thought, for a young player trying to do the right thing for his career.

“I was a little bit surprised by that. But that was a hell of a learning experience for him the other night and against quality opposition as well.

“To bounce back from that three days later, to play against another of your former teams, to play another 90 minutes at 21 years of age and to show the physicality and maturity, the dynamism that he showed right off the back of that 90 minutes against Arsenal the other night, it says a lot about Omari and the direction he’s travelling in.”

And therefore it’s clear why Everton won’t be alone in their interest this summer.
