Dan James has signed a new contract at Leeds United after coming off an impressive season in the Championship at Elland Road.

The 27-year-old played a pivotal role for the Whites as they won the league title and sealed promotion to the Premier League.

James’ previous contract at Elland Road expired in June 2026, and his extension was arguably a no-brainer for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Daniel Farke now has the ex-Manchester United ace on a four-year deal in LS11, and there’s no doubt the Wales international has earned it.

The Whites announced (14 July) that the 27-year-old has pledged his future in LS11 until 2029, which will come as a massive relief for supporters.

After the Welshman officially extended his stay at Elland Road, the West Yorkshire outfit’s former captain responded on Instagram to the news with delight.

Ayling commented “fully deserved brother” on a social media post by the Peacocks that featured the forward after his deal was officially confirmed.

Leeds can rest easy after new James contract

James’ contract extension is a massive boost for Leeds as it wouldn’t have been surprising to see interest from Premier League outfits in him this summer.

The Whites risked losing the 27-year-old as a free agent and would have been undoubtedly forced to sell him in the coming weeks had he not extended his contract.

Junior Firpo’s exit from Elland Road gave the West Yorkshire outfit’s recruitment department a headache, but they swiftly signed Gabriel Gudmundsson from LOSC Lille.

Leeds can arguably rest easy after securing the Wales international’s future and focus on bolstering their team with quality signings this summer.

The Whites have strengthened their defence ahead of next season, but the midfield and attack arguably still needs more quality.

James will surely play a key role once again for Farke in LS11 next season, and it will be interesting to see how he fares back in the Premier League.
