Ashley Young is unlikely to remain in the Premier League next season, sources have told Football Insider.

Young left Everton last month following the expiration of his contract and despite being 40 years old, has no plans to retire.

However, sources say that the former Manchester United man may be forced to drop down to the Championship in order to find a new club.

The full-back is also expected to have offers from abroad, but is happy to make the move down to the second tier of English football.

Young will move to promotion-chasing side

Despite being expected to drop down a division, Young is still likely to have offers from promotion-chasing Championship sides.

During his two campaigns at Everton, the 40-year-old proved he still had the ability to compete at the top level, making 70 appearances.

Last season, Young made 36 appearances for the Toffees, but only started 19 of those games, as he was reduced to a rotational role.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Everton’s owners plan to back David Moyes with a summer budget of around £70million.

The transfer window revamp meant that Moyes was left with no need for Young in his side for next season.

Ex-Everton star seals switch

Former Everton star Mason Holgate has taken a huge step toward closing his switch to Qatari side Al-Gharafa, sources have told Football Insider.

The defender has passed a medical at the club and has signed a two-year deal with the option of a third year.

Holgate left Everton this summer following a decade at the club after he joined from Barnsley in 2015.

During that time, the former England youth international made 150 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, scoring five goals and registering five assists.
