The Eintracht Frankfurt striker looks set to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League.

The Blues have already added Joao Pedro from Brighton and Liam Delap from Ipswich Town to bolster their attacking options. However, with Noni Madueke set to join Arsenal and Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku both linked with exits, there could be more room for investment at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could see Darwin Nunez quit Anfield as Arne Slot prepares to defend his Premier League title. Bringing in a new striker is a priority for the Reds.

Newcastle United working on Hugo Ekitike transfer

However, it is Newcastle United who are closest to signing Ekitike, who talkSPORT claim is available for £77 million. The Frenchman, who scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, has been linked with a move to Tyneside in the past.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided the latest on that deal when speaking on his YouTube channel this week, in what are exciting quotes for Magpies supporters. He said: “Keep a close eye to Hugo Ekitike. I told you last week, and many said Fabrizio you are crazy, why they just signed Elanga? Why one more expensive player? But Newcastle are working on the deal to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. I told you last week and I maintain my position. Newcastle are on it and want Ekitike.

“They wanted Joao Pedro before he decided to go to Chelsea so they are still looking to add one more offensive player. They believe Ekitike is perfect for Eddie Howe in terms of skills, potential and goals to bring to the squad in Champions League football next season. Newcastle are working hard on the deal to sign Ekitike, he is a top target for them and they are really pushing, working on a deal on the player’s side and with Eintracht.

Chelsea and Liverpool linked with Eintracht Frankfurt man

“Of course, it’s an expensive player, so it’s not an easy or immediate deal for Ekitike but Newcastle are on it. In these hours, not in three of four weeks. Newcastle are working on the deal. Let them work and let’s see what’s going to happen there, we know there is interest from several clubs across Europe including Liverpool. We still wait and see what will happen with Darwin Nunez, Chelsea called for him at the beginning of the transfer window.”

Newcastle United have seen veteran Callum Wilson leave the club as a free agent this summer as he pursues greater playing time. Alexander Isak, who cost the Magpies £63 million in 2022, has been linked with an exit but that looks a hard task for any suitor to pull off. A move for Ekitike could be a club record fee for Newcastle United, eclipsing the £63 million paid to Real Sociedad for Isak.
