Marcus Rashford’s future at Man Utd continues to look uncertain but Fabrizio Romano is convinced it lies elsewhere.
Beggars can’t be choosers, however, in the case of Marcus Rashford it would seem that his football career is over unless he gets his dream move to Barcelona.
As always, Fabrizio Romano has his finger on the pulse and has revealed where the potential move to La Liga is at. Now 27, Rashford is approaching his peak and should be playing regular football, nobody could have predicted what has happened at United and it seemed certain that he would spend his whole career at the club.
What has Romano said about Marcus Rashford’s future at Man Utd?
When asked if he expected Rashford to leave United, Romano said on his Here We Go podcast: “Yeah, this is not going to change, basically because Rashford got a clear message from the club, from the management, from the staff, from Ruben Amorim. They don't trust him. They don't want him as part of the squad.
“So Rashford accepted this decision. And now he's waiting to move on, to have a new opportunity elsewhere. So the dream of Marcus Rashford remains Barcelona.
“That's very clear. Rashford would love to go to Barca. There were already some contacts between his agents and Barcelona early in the transfer window. Then now basically what's going on is that Rashford keeps insisting to go to Barcelona. He would love to make this deal happen. It's his desire.
“So, this message is arriving in a very clear and strong way to Barcelona. Now it's on Barca to decide, because according to my information, Barcelona have still not decided whether they really want to go for Rashford or for another winger. For example, the dream target remains Luis Diaz, but we know it's a complicated negotiation with Liverpool.
“It's not easy at all. And Bayern also know that because both clubs, Barcelona and Bayern, have been interested for weeks in Luis Diaz, but Liverpool keep closing their doors. And so basically what's happening now is that Barca have to decide what they want to do in the next days, in the next weeks.
“Rashford is waiting, he's hoping to go to Barca, but we still have to be patient because as of today, Sunday, there is still no negotiation on going between Manchester United and Barcelona, no official bid. And so the story remains open.”
Has Rashford be dealt with unfairly?
Rashford has returned to training, however, the player hasn’t intimated that he is willing to apply himself to the philosophy that Amorim is demanding in training and in games. No player is bigger than any club and the academy graduate was given plenty of warning about the standards that the manager was demanding.
There is a World Cup next year and Rashford will want to be involved for England, however, if he isn’t playing regularly, he will have no chance of making the squad given the attacking players who are available to Thomas Tuchel. His best chance is with United, but it appears that the relationship is beyond repair.
On loan at Aston Villa, there were flashes of the old Rashford, but flashes aren’t enough anymore and he can’t get away with drifting in and out of games. He should be setting the standard, not throwing his toys out the pram when he doesn’t get his way.
