Report: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fails to sign Manchester United target as £5m opening bid rejected

Manchester United are interested in Boca Juniors talent Milton Delgado, but may end up having to battle Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his signature.

Manchester United fans are still waiting for progress over Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo wanted to join United more than a month ago, but there is still no agreement with Brentford.

The Cameroonian forward is United’s top target, but Ineos will have other potential signings in mind for the summer window.

Reports last week suggested that United are interested in signing Milton Delgado from Boca Juniors this summer.

United were linked with Delgado in April and may now be ready to launch a £9million bid for the midfielder.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moves for Manchester United target Milton Delgado

Delgado has played 31 times for Boca at senior level, but is still waiting for his first goal.

The diminutive midfielder has also become a regular for Argentina’s Under-20s, with United now seemingly attracted by his potential.

Delgado would be one for the future, rather than an immediate-impact player for Ruben Amorim, but there could be familiar competition for the 20-year-old.

La Derecha Diario in Argentina report that Besiktas have made an offer of around €4.8million with an extra €1million in add-ons.

That takes the total proposal to around £5million, with Besiktas boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempting to swoop in ahead of United.

Boca have rejected the offer, though, and it’s unclear whether Besiktas will make a new offer for the Argentinian.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking for Milton Delgado to aid Besiktas hopes

United will be well aware of rival interest in Delgado and may be tempted to firm up the interest before Besiktas potentially make another move.

Solskjaer has enjoyed a strong start as Besiktas boss, recording 12 wins, four draws and six defeats in his 22 games.

Besiktas only finished fourth in the Super Lig table last season, though, and ended up 33 points adrift of champions Galatasaray.

Solskjaer needs major signings to bridge that gap, and has already landed striker Tammy Abraham from Roma.

Delgado may now be viewed as another player who can help take Solskjaer and Besiktas forward, but United may have something to say in this transfer race.
