This early in West Ham’s pre-season training, yet with just four weeks to go before the Premier League kicks off again on 15th August, the Hammers already have significant bad news to deal with on the training pitch ahead of their preseason games and summer tour in the USA.
With no new recruits to bolster the midfield to date, the Hammers were expecting great things from youngsters Freddie Potts and George Earthy who excelled in the Championship last season and would have been looking to cement first team places thug season in the Irons’ somewhat underwhelming midfield line up which showed last season that it was in urgent need of pace and creativity.
Which Makes George Earthy’s new ankle injury particularly significant with such a short recovery time before the season opener against Sunderland next month.

Hammers midfielder Earthy has picked up an injury
“West Ham have been dealt an injury blow with George Earthy picking up ankle ligament damage”
The extent of the ligament damage is not yet known- so whether Earthy returns to England for a scan and treatment will determine how badly he’s affected.
Surely West Ham will take no chances with the young midfielder. The worry will be that this is a recurrence of the ankle injury from September 2024 which kept him sidelined from action in the Championship for several weeks.
Incredibly bad luck for Earthy who had performed so well and of whom so much was expected this season. Fingers crossed it proves a minor injury and he’s good to go by August 16th.
