Man Utd could make move to sign 25-goal striker, £45m clause in contract - report

Manchester United could enter the transfer market for a new striker this summer.

The Red Devils misfired in the final third last season, scoring only 44 goals in the Premier League.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were disappointing with just seven league goals between them.

United may want an upgrade for next season, and Corriere dello Sport (page 22) claim that United should not be underestimated in the pursuit of Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.

The Italy international has already turned down proposals from Al-Qadsiah and Al-Hilal in the last few days and prefers to continue his career in Europe next season.

United could make a late move to trigger his £45 million release clause, which expires on July 15. If not, Kean is open to extending his deal at La Viola with a pay rise.

United unlikely to pursue deal for Kean

The 25-year-old signed for La Viola from Juventus last summer. He had a fantastic debut campaign with 25 goals from 44 appearances. Just one of those came from the penalty spot.

Despite this, United may not pursue a deal for the Italian, considering his career thus far. Kean previously had a forgettable spell at Everton, scoring four goals from 39 matches.

His return to Juventus was unconvincing too, with 14 goals from 102 outings. His fortunes have changed at Fiorentina, but it would be a risky move to sign him based on one season.

Kean has improved both aerially and physically compared to earlier in his career, but still tends to squander big chances. He did so on a staggering 34 occasions last term.

He is also not the best with the ball at his feet. Manager Ruben Amorim prefers to work with strikers who are pretty mobile and can link up play aside from finding the back of the net.

It is unlikely that United will trigger Kean’s buy-out clause before tomorrow’s deadline.
