Titans Trade Idea Swaps Late-Round Pick for First-Round Draft Bust

The Tennessee Titans have struggled to find much success since the early days of former head coach Mike Vrabel's tenure. The departures of players like Derrick Henry, A.J. Brown and Ryan Tannehill have made life difficult for them in the AFC South.

Another problem, however, has been who the team replaced these players with. While Tony Pollard is a solid running back, Treylon Burks and Will Levis are just not the same caliber players as Brown and Tannehill were in Tennessee.

Levis is locked in as the team's backup quarterback behind Cam Ward this season, but Burks has a legitimate chance of not making the roster in 2025 after being a first-round pick in 2022.

Last week, Fox Sports' Cory Woodroof proposed a trade idea that would let the Titans off the hook for Burks. He pitched that the Las Vegas Raiders could send a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick to the Titans for the former first-rounder.

"Burks' time in Tennessee feels nigh, as the former first-round receiver has struggled to live up to his draft status because of injuries. If any team in the NFL could take a flier on a former first-round wideout, it's the Raiders," Woodroof wrote. "Las Vegas has real questions at receiver, and Burks could contend for a starting role or a key depth role in Chip Kelly's offense. Particularly with quarterback Geno Smith throwing the ball, we'd love to see Burks try to really get his NFL career going with one of the most pass-happy quarterbacks in the NFL. While the Titans would probably have to settle for a late pick, a fresh start feels right for all parties involved. The Raiders could be a nice landing spot for Burks at this point, and the Titans could give its younger receivers more reps."

Las Vegas does have very few surefire solutions at wideout other than Jakobi Meyers, who recorded his first 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024. Rookies Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr. are promising, but far from established in the NFL.

Burks is worth a flier for them for this simple reason. Although he has only played in 27 games across three NFL seasons and recorded just 699 receiving yards, he was talented enough to be a first-round pick.

The Raiders now have Pete Carroll as their head coach, who is known for his ability to revive counted-out players like Geno Smith. Perhaps he could do the same with Burks, and if it means a late-round pick for Tennessee, general manager Mike Borgonzi should hop on it.
