Hugo Ekitike
Hugo Ekitike is subject of interest from Newcastle United
Newcastle United look have stepped up their interest in Hugo Ekitike and are believed to have held conversations on a possible deal with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sources close to the 23-year-old indicate that Newcastle officials traveled to Germany last week to explore the potential of a deal.
United’s head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, has been leading transfer efforts since the departure of sporting director Paul Mitchell.
Although Newcastle need to operate within the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), a deal for the Frenchman has not been ruled out.
With that in mind, ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest headlines from in and around St James' Park.
Hugo Ekitike 'talks'
Newcastle have held talks on a possible deal for Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Frenchman has previously been linked with a move to St James' Park, with the club believed to have made another play for his signature, according to sources in Germany as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his forward line for the forthcoming season.
ChronicleLive says: If Newcastle manage to sign Hugo Ekitike, it would be a fantastic boost to their squad and mark a significant step forward in Eddie Howe’s attacking arsenal.
Ekitike is a dynamic, versatile striker known for his pace, physicality, and clinical finishing, which would add a new dimension to Newcastle’s frontline.
Howe already has a strong group of attackers in Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak, Elanga, and Jacob Murphy - all players who bring creativity, speed, and flair.
Adding Ekitike would deepen that pool, providing not only more options but also fierce competition for places, which typically drives performance levels higher.
If this deal goes through, it would be more than just a signing - it would be a statement to Newcastle’s rivals. With their involvement in the Champions League and domestic competitions, Newcastle will need to rotate players extensively next season.
James McAtee 'move'
Manchester City star James McAtee, previously linked with Newcastle, now appears close to a move to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to talkSPORT, McAtee is in Frankfurt today as the England U21 international aims to finalise his transfer.
ChronicleLive says: McAtee’s youth and skill set makes him an appealing prospect, but there are other players who offer different strengths and experience.
Newcastle won’t be dwelling on what might have been for missing out on the midfielder, as they have multiple targets lined up to ensure they aren’t left short-handed if talks with any one player collapse or if rivals move faster.
McAtee's arrival at Frankfurt could even make the club more open to selling Ekitike.
