Kyle Filipowski Turns In Another Massive Performance

On a night when the Jazz struggled to score, shooting just 37 percent from the floor as a team, Kyle Filipowski dominated the opposition once again.

The second-year big man scored 35 points on 11-19 shooting, including 5-8 from the three-point line and a massive game-tying dunk with two seconds left in overtime before the Spurs buzzer beater.

After Cody Williams missed a pair of free throws, Filipowski grabbed the offensive rebound, drove to the basket, and dunked over Spurs first-round pick Carter Bryant to knot the score at 91.

The Duke product is averaging 29.3 points per game through three Vegas Summer League performances despite the Jazz’s 0-3 record.

With John Collins now suiting up for the Los Angeles Clippers and Taylor Hendricks still recovering from a gruesome leg injury, Filipowski had made a strong argument to be the Jazz’s third frontcourt starter when the regular season opens in October.

John Tonje Impressive In NBA Debut

Rookie John Tonjue made his long-awaited NBA debut after missing the Jazz’s first five summer league games with an ankle injury, and the Wisconsin product did not disappoint.

Tonje scored 16 points in 23 minutes while shooting 5-9 from the floor and 4-7 from three, showing off an instinct for finding space on the perimeter.

The wing also earned four trips to the free-throw line, and added three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in his premier.

At 24, the Wisconsin product is older than most rookies, but has an NBA-ready body and an understanding of the game that could benefit the Jazz’s aggressively young roster.

The Jazz will have to decide whether to sign Tonje to their third and final two-way contract or offer him a traditional NBA deal if they want him on the roster this season.

Jazz Play Final Scheduled Game On Wednesday

The Jazz will play their final scheduled Vegas Summer League game on Wednesday when they face the Washington Wizards.

Ace Bailey has yet to suit up for the Jazz in Vegas but was listed as questionable for Monday’s game before being ruled out due to a sore right hip flexor.
