Madueke could also be haunted by an old clip which has gone viral since the news of Arsenal's interest came to light. Shortly after joining Chelsea, he described them as the 'biggest club in London' ahead of the Gunners.
On their official website, Madueke was quoted as saying: "The fact that Chelsea were the ones chasing me, the biggest club in London, was a blessing and a bonus.
"As I started playing football when I was so young, I didn’t support a particular club. I’m not gonna pretend I’ve supported Chelsea my whole life, because that’d be lying, but I do now."
Madueke repeated the claim in a separate interview with Football Daily, insisting: "Listen, I'll say it again, it's [Chelsea] the biggest club in London but it's one of the biggest clubs in the world, let's be honest."
It remains to be seen if Madueke's comments about Chelsea will come back to bite him at Arsenal, where he will be hoping to make a fresh start.
He flew back to England before the Club World Cup final, having been spotted watching Drake perform at Wireless Festival on Sunday. He is still due to receive a winners' medal given that he played five games at the tournament.
Chelsea players have joked that Madueke will be able to show off his medal in the Arsenal dressing room because they will have never seen one before, according to the Daily Mail.
Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, recently urged Arsenal fans to lay off Madueke in a furious social media post and took aim at those who signed the #NOTOMADUEKE petition.
"I just hope the people that are closest to him are around him and supporting him in the way that he needs right now," wrote Ferdinand.
"It's fine for fans to disagree with signings or decisions made at their football club, but the way some fans have publicly voiced their opinions and those who have gone a step further in publicly joining a petition for this player not to be signed by their football club is beyond me.
"Like I said earlier, just imagine if this was your best friend, one of your family members, your brother, son, then tell me how would you feel if they were on the receiving end of this vulgar behaviour?"
