Former Everton player Ashley Young intends to extend his playing career into another season. The versatile ex-England international spent two seasons on Merseyside before being released this summer.
He made 32 Premier League appearances last season, earning plaudits from both Sean Dyche and David Moyes as he provided cover on both sides of the defence.
He turned 40 last week but has spent the summer working on his fitness as he searches for a new club. Asked what his plans were, Young simply told Sky Sports: "To keep playing.”
He explained: "I know I've turned 40, but it's not stopping me at all. I'm looking forward to what's going to be next, as well, but I'm not hanging up my boots anytime soon. I'm ready to go out there and play again.”
Young was repeatedly praised by Moyes for his leadership qualities and his experience was valued at Finch Farm.
He was one of a dozen senior players who left the Blues at the end of last month, however, his last game being the final day win at Newcastle United.
Young, who won the Premier League with Manchester United and Serie A with Inter Milan, is more than happy to continue with the training workload of a modern professional.
He added he was open to opportunities overseas as well as in England.
He said: “I've said for years now that I feel fitter than I did when I was about 25. I owe a lot to Antonio Conte [his manager at Inter] for his lovely running sessions that he put us through.
"I’m delighted, I'm feeling fit. I've been training and I don't feel like I'm ready to retire yet."
