Report: Ineos make enquiry for player labelled'perfect for Manchester United', Solskjaer tried to sign him in 2020

Manchester United’s summer has been at a standstill since June 1st when Matheus Cunha was announced to have arrived from Wolves.

Costing a whopping £62.5m from the Premier League side, there is a lot of pressure on Matheus Cunha to perform.

Cunha has been nicknamed ‘Neymar’ which is a sign of just how talented he is and will be an immense upgrade on the current options at Manchester United.

However, since Cunha became United’s earliest signing in a decade, there has been little to get excited about. Two high potential youngsters have been signed, but they had been known about for months, while Bryan Mbeumo talks are taking months.

This will leave the club frantically searching in August to fix other problem positions, and almost certainly sets United up for a tough season. Ineos have let Ruben Amorim down this summer with slow business and the lack of sales being completed.

But despite the negatives, United cannot dwell, with plenty of work to do.

Manchester United enquire over signing Corentin Tolisso

When United finally sign Mbeumo, Jason Wilcox still has four more positions Amorim wants strengthened and little or finances time to do so.

With this in mind, United have been linked with a number of cheaper options and now reports in France claim another option has joined the list.

It is according to L’Equipe on Monday that Lyon midfielder has emerged as a target, with United approaching Tolisso’s entourage to enquire over his thoughts of a possible transfer.

Lyon’s financial situation has opened them up to selling, however it is noted Tolisso has always made it clear that he intended to remain at Lyon.

Despite this, the report adds that Tolisso is not opposed to the idea of joining a club of the magnitude of United.

Tolisso saw Old Trafford at its very best last season when Lyon lost 5-4, in the rollercoaster game the Frenchman scored and then got sent off, which made for a memorable visit to the Theatre of Dreams, to say the least.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted Tolisso in 2020 when Rafael approved move

While not the most exciting signing possible this summer, Tolisso is a long term target for the club.

First linked in 2017 before his move to Bayern Munich, United were also linked with Tolisso back in 2020 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

At this time, former club full-back, Rafael, endorsed Tolisso joining United, with a tweet in response to a link between United and the midfielder.

“One of best midfielder I play with, i think will be perfect for Manchester United. Hope he goes there.”

Rafael played with the likes of Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, so this is very high praise from the Brazilian, something we will be holding onto in the event that he does end up being the midfield addition.
