Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi will continue working with the Magpies' loan department.

The 43-year-old was appointed as loan manager back in 2019 before the takeover went through and has maintained his position throughout various changes.

Newcastle announced Jack Ross as "head of strategy" today but this will not affect the roles of either Ameobi or assistant Peter Ramage.

The pair are essentially still part of Newcastle's scouting hub and provide detailed reports for players out on loan.

The Ross statement read he would be: "Overseeing the club’s player loan and emerging talent strategy."

But Chronicle Live understands that Ross has been working in the loan department for a number of months now, and Ameobi and Ramage have been working hand in hand with the former Sunderland boss.

Ameobi and Ramage report to Ross and will keep an eye on those gaining experience in Europe and in the EFL next term.

However, Ameobi will also retain his role as club ambassador and will support staff during trips abroad.

Ameobi's role on tour, on trips such as Australia, Japan and the US, has been to attend fan events and do media work.

This is deemed a key role on tour, with clubs like Man City and Liverpool also travelling with former players, to help with the engagement side of the operation while head coach Eddie Howe and his staff work on training and recruitment.

Ameobi told Chronicle Live from Philadelphia back in 2023: "It's great because you see how many fans have travelled from so far.

"I have been here two or three times now with Newcastle, but it just seems to be a growing fanbase which we want.

"We want to access our fans, and coming to see them and going to the fan park is great."
