Aston Villa are ready to make a move to secure the services of Toulouse defender Jaydee Canvot, Villa News has learned.

Unai Emery is keen on bolstering his backline this summer and has turned to the French centre-back, who appears to be on his way out.

The 18-year-old played 18 Ligue 1 games last season and featured regularly in the second half of the campaign.

Toulouse want north of £17million for Canvot

Sources tell Villa News that the French side are holding out for €20million (£17million+) if they are to part ways with the teenager.

Canvot is keen on moving to Aston Villa, but the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on the transfer fee.

An initial bid is now on the cards from the Villa Park outfit as they want to bring in the talented youngster to the club.

Aston Villa may think twice before shelling out that fee on Canvot

Aston Villa may hesitate to spend £17million on Canvot due to his limited senior experience and the risks associated with his youth.

At 18, the Frenchman has only one season of Ligue 1 football, with 18 appearances, which may not justify the high price tag for a player yet to prove himself in a top league.

Canvot’s stats.

His versatility as a centre-back or defensive midfielder is appealing, but Emery’s squad already has depth in these areas and they need players who can strengthen their eleven.

The fee could strain Villa’s budget, especially with other targets potentially offering more immediate impact.

Canvot’s inexperience could make him a risky signing for a club aiming for Champions League qualification, prompting Villa to prioritise proven talent over potential.
