Arsenal are hoping to wrap up a few more transfer deals this week
Arsenal have had a busy time of it lately with three transfer deals confirmed as done and another three could be on the way within the next week.
With the Gunners confirming the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard - another trio look set to be on their way to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
While the the above players will either add depth to Mikel Arteta’s squad or improve the starting XI, the addition that Arsenal have been crying out for is a new striker. That move looks set to happen with a breakthrough in talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in recent days.
Fabrizio Romano gives update on Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal
Providing an update late on Monday night, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano revealed that Sporting have asked that the proposed £8.7m in add-ons be “easy”. An up front fee of around £48m has already been agreed between the clubs with Gyokeres’ agent waiving his fee to help facilitate a move.
Providing an update, Romano said on X: “Negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting remain ongoing in London with all parties involved. After commission reduced by agent plus €63.5m fee ready, Sporting ask for €10m add-ons to be easy/guaranteed. Arsenal and agents remain in talks to get the final green light.”
It has been somewhat of a drawn-out saga for Arsenal to sign Gyokeres with the player threatening to go on strike and the Sporting CEO Frederico Varandas not shy to comment publicly on the transfer. Arsenal have kept their cards close to their chest and their persistence looks close to paying off.
Viktor Gyokeres will take Arsenal to the next level
Following his move from Coventry City to Portugal in 2023, Gyokeres has established himself as one of the hottest properties on the striker market. He has scored 97 goals and provided 28 assists in 102 games for Sporting.
Even if he produced half of those numbers for Arsenal he will prove an important addition as Arteta looks to finally win the Premier League having been frustrated in his last three attempts with the Gunners finishing second in each of those campaigns.
Gyokeres has just turned 27 so is entering his prime and the timing of his move to North London could work out perfectly. The Gunners have had the best defence in the last two campaigns, but have scored fewer goals than both Liverpool and Manchester City in those two seasons as they watched their rivals lift the trophy. Adding more firepower to a solid defensive unit could finally see the club end their wait for another league title.
