Liverpool are a"concrete option"to complete deal to sign£87m striker

Eintracht Frankfurt are expecting to receive offers for Hugo Ekitike this month and Liverpool remain a “concrete option” for the young forward.

The 23-year-old was in impeccable form last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists as Frankfurt finished third in the Bundesliga albeit some 22 points behind champions Bayern Munich.

Ekitike ranked incredibly for a lot of key stats last season including touches in the attacking penalty area, successful take-ons and shot-creating actions.

Liverpool are right to be interested in the Frenchman even if his €100m (£87m) price tag is prohibitive to say the least.

But, Arne Slot needs attacking firepower in his side and that doesn’t come cheap.

Latest Hugo Ekitike transfer news

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool remain a concrete option for Ekitike even though there is significant interest from the likes of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Frankfurt, for their part, are bracing themselves for offers even though they don’t want to lose Ekitike especially with a Champions League campaign on its way this season.

Plettenberg, reporting via X, says: “Eintracht Frankfurt would like to keep HugoEkitike, also to be well prepared for the Champions League.

“However, Eintracht are expecting offers this month. Liverpool remain a concrete option. Newcastle have renewed their interest. Manchester United still there.

“Chelsea are currently unlikely due to the transfer of João Pedro. His price tag is €100m.”

How would Liverpool’s team look with Ekitike?

A front three of Luis Diaz (assuming he stays), Ekitike and Salah with Florian Wirtz working his magic in the No.10 role would be a frightening prospect for any team in Europe.

How Arne Slot would be able to balance a side like this will be intriguing to watch but the Dutch coach has proven himself to be a smart and calculated tactician.

One thing is certain. This team would score bucket loads of goals and Ekitike, while perhaps overpriced, does seem close to breaking into the next phase of his development.

He is no doubt still raw but he has shown he can operate at a consistently high level although the switch to the Premier League isn’t always straightforward compared to the Bundesliga.
