Arsenal reward 18 y/o striker turned full-back with first professional deal

Arsenal have confirmed that talented left-back Cam’ron Ismail has signed his first professional contract.

Ismail grew up supporting Arsenal and admired former forward Theo Walcott, having begun his career as a striker.

The Egypt youth international joined Arsenal in 2021 and has progressed through the ranks in the academy.

He made his debut in the U18 Premier League in the 2022/2023 season and has been a regular since then.

Ismail scored his first goal for the U18s last season, netting a stoppage-time winner at Crystal Palace in April.

He made his first senior appearance for the U21s in the victory over Aston Villa last August, coming on as a substitute for Elian Quesada-Thorn.

Following Quesada-Thorn’s release, he is expected to become a permanent squad member of the U21s.

However, the 18 year-old faces competition from Marcell Washington, who just arrived from Chelsea and will also be vying for a starting spot.

Reacting to signing his first professional contract, he told arsenal.com: “I think it’s an important day. A day that’s been in my mind for quite a long time.

“I think it’s a proud moment for me, and it’s something that I’ve been dreaming of. It’s a big moment and I’m happy to be here.

“I’ve always been an Arsenal fan. I think being around it and living so close to the stadium, you’re always seeing Arsenal fans everywhere, hearing the theme song. I think it’s a big thing just being from Islington, supporting Arsenal, and being able to play for Arsenal.

“I’m very proud to do so, and every day, I come in and give my all.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal have also handed midfielder Louie Copley his first professional contract.

Copley is among the 10 academy players training with the first team in La Manga.

In addition, the North London outfit have announced the exit of Poland youth international Michal Rosiak. He was offered a new deal, but he rejected it.
