Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer.
Brentford are reportedly unwilling to lose both Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa this summer.
Newcastle United have been linked with the Bees duo at different stages of the summer transfer window. It is understood the Magpies liked Mbeumo as recently as May - although Anthony Elanga was always the club’s top right-winger target.
However, it soon became clear that the Cameroon international favoured a move to Manchester United. Newcastle went full throttle at finalising a deal for Elanga, who completed his £55million move on Friday.
Bryan Mbeumo saga rumbling on
Now in mid-July, the Mbeumo saga is still rumbling on, with the player no closer to his dream move. Man United boss Ruben Amorim wanted swift action but both parties are understood to be haggling over a fee.
As for Newcastle, the Daily Mail reported last week that Brentford striker Wissa is a possible target. The Magpies are eyeing a backup option for Alexander Isak following Callum Wilson’s departure.
Joao Pedro was the top target until his big-money move to Chelsea scuppered those plans. Despite being 28, Wissa is viewed as someone who can deputise for Isak if needed ahead of a Champions League campaign.
Transfer domino effect?
An offer worth around £40million may tempt Brentford as they undergo a summer rebuild without Thomas Frank. Sky Sports, on the other hand, suggest the Bees will not lose both prized assets in the same window.
Newcastle could find themselves at the heart of a transfer domino effect should Mbeumo join Man United. At present, the magpies are yet to make a formal approach for Wissa.

Thomas Frank on selling duo
Speaking in May while still working as Brentford manager, Frank suggested their star duo could leave if the price is right. He said: “I would like them to stay. I would love for both players to stay at the club.
“We all know that we are a selling club but they are that good, they need to be a very good club with a lot of money to pay for what they get, they’ve got quality both of them. Both of them have developed massively. Bryan has been here six years and has definitely done everything he can and just added layers every single season. And both of them are performing at a top level.”
