Report: £59m player is now absolutely untouchable at Man City, Gary Neville is a massive fan

The 2024/25 campaign is one Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are happy to leave in the past.

Last season was one of the toughest in Guardiola’s career as the legendary coach struggled to get the results he wanted out of his City team for a large chunk of the term.

This resulted in the Manchester club ending the campaign without a trophy, while also needing to qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the season, something the Premier League giants did with ease in previous campaigns.

To help them achieve this, Man City signed Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis, with one of these stars now being deemed untouchable at the Etihad Stadium.

Omar Marmoush is untouchable at Man City

Marmoush impressed Guardiola with the impact he made at Man City during the second half of last season as the Egyptian helped the Manchester club become a bigger attacking threat, whilst producing eight goals and three assists across 25 appearances.

The £59m forward is set to be a key part of the plans at City for the upcoming season, and according to Manchester Evening News, the 26-year-old is deemed untouchable at the Etihad Stadium, should any club come looking for the player.

“City expect to keep him [Nico Gonzalez], but at the same time, he is not as untouchable as fellow January buy Omar Marmoush,” Simon Bajkowski wrote. “If he wants to force a move, there is a number that the club will accept, as they tell any player.”

Gary Neville was also impressed with Marmoush last season and made it clear during Man City’s win over Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium that he was a fan of the Egypt international.

“There is a lot to like about Marmoush in the blue shirt of Manchester City,” Neville said on Sky Sports. “He is really good. He is quick and direct with the ball at his feet.”

Last season was the best of Marmoush’s career, with both Eintracht Frankfurt and City, and if the 26-year-old can take another step during the upcoming campaign, that will go a long way in helping Guardiola’s men achieve their goals.

Where will Omar Marmoush line up for Man City next season

The FIFA Club World Cup provided some insight into how Guardiola is thinking ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and an interesting conclusion from the tournament is that the legendary coach seemed to prefer Jeremy Doku and Savinho on the wings.

This might not be good news for Marmoush, as Erling Haaland will certainly start up front and Rayan Cherki is expected to operate in the 10; therefore, Marmoush’s role is expected to be on one of the flanks.

Given his importance, Marmoush will probably start on the left for City when they kick off their Premier League campaign next month against Wolves, as the Egyptian star is too good not to have as part of Guardiola’s forward plans.

In an ideal world, Guardiola will want the 26-year-old, Haaland, Cherki, and Phil Foden all operating at their best in the forward areas for City, and if they can achieve this, the Manchester club will be a hard team to stop.
