Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has opened up and said he is ready for the “challenge” of playing for Premier League Champions LIVERPOOL following his “dream” move to Anfield.
Alisson Becker is the current first-choice stopper at Anfield, having helped the club win seven major trophies since his £67 million arrival from AS Roma in 2018, but there is a feeling that his level has dropped slightly.
Caoimhin Kelleher was in outstanding form while Alisson was sidelined with a hamstring injury last season, but he has now left the club after he was informed that he was free to leave the club and seek pastures new, especially after Mamardashvili was signed.
The Georgia goalkeeper officially arrived at the club last month after initially sealing a £29m switch from Valencia last August. He made his debut for the Reds against Preston on Sunday, playing the first 45 minutes of the pre-season friendly.
Speaking to the official club website, he said: “I am happy, I am very excited to be here. It’s a huge moment for me because joining a club like Liverpool, it’s not only a transfer, it’s a dream come true for me. I feel ready, motivated and proud.”
On playing and learning from Alisson, he added: “I can’t wait to start to work [with] him and learn from him.
“Of course, it will be a challenge. I like challenges and I’m here to just give my best and help the team.”
IcFootballnews Says…
Alisson is the number of at Liverpool, he is one of the best in world football and Mamardashvili will have to wait for his chance to try and make that number one spot his own.
However – he is a quality stopper that will be a very good addition to that LIVERPOOL squad, he will be a great signing for the Reds.
