Ramón Sosa has explained his move back to South America after finalising a transfer from Nottingham Forest to Palmeiras, speaking openly about his motivations during his official presentation in São Paulo.
The Paraguayan winger, [who joined the Premier League side in January but struggled for consistent opportunities](https://sportwitness.co.uk/ramon-sosa-explains-why-hes-had-to-leave-nottingham-forest-so-quickly/), was officially unveiled as Palmeiras’ newest signing on Monday.
[Speaking to the local press](https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/palmeiras/artigo/_/id/15428610/palmeiras-ramon-sosa-apresentado-tietou-lucas-moura-sao-paulo-amigos-corinthians), Sosa said the move “is not a step back”, insisting that the Brazilian club’s status and ambitions match his own.
_“I think this is a big step in my career. For me, it’s not going backwards. Palmeiras are a top-level club who fight for everything. We saw them play Chelsea in the Club World Cup as equals. That says a lot,”_ he said.
Sosa also made a point of highlighting the positive atmosphere at the club and his close relationship with fellow Paraguay international Gustavo Gómez.
_“Since the moment I arrived, I’ve felt valued. I’m happy here and I believe I’ll grow both as a player and as a person.”_
The 24-year-old also shared an anecdote about his admiration for Spurs hero Lucas Moura, currently at São Paulo.
Sosa revealed that after a Copa Libertadores clash earlier this year, he approached the Brazilian midfielder to request his shirt.
_“I used to follow him when he played for Tottenham, I liked him a lot,”_ he said. _“So after the match, I waited by the dressing room and managed to get his shirt.”_
Sosa and Moura are expected to meet on the pitch this October, when São Paulo host Palmeiras for a local derby in the league.
Whether he can now relaunch his career with Palmeiras remains to be seen, but early signs suggest the winger is relishing the challenge.
