Reliable journalist has now dropped fresh update on Liverpool’s next striker after Nunez

Reliable journalist David Ornstein has dropped an important update on Liverpool’s pursuit of a new striker this summer, also giving the latest on Darwin Nunez’s future at the club.

The Reds are gradually trying to adjust to life without Diogo Jota around, following the Portuguese’s devastating death earlier this month.

It is vital that Liverpool handle their day-to-day business in the most respectable manner possible, but more signings are expected to happen at some point this summer.

With both full-back positions filled and Florian Wirtz coming in from Bayer Leverkusen, supporters would now likely want to see a new centre-back brought in, as well as a striker.

According to The Athletic‘s Ornstein, a new No.9 is now a priority for the Premier League champions, with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike remaining “prominent in their thinking” this summer.

That said, “various factors would need to align for such interest to develop” in the Newcastle United marksman or Eintracht Frankfurt star.

It is also claimed that Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson was admired by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes during his time at Bournemouth, but a switch to Anfield is highly unlikely now.

Meanwhile, a move away from Liverpool for the out-of-favour Nunez “will progress again soon”, with Napoli the Uruguayan’s club of choice, amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Isak remains the dream choice for Liverpool

Opinion will likely be split over who the perfect option would be to lead the line for the Reds next season, but Isak surely stands out as the dream addition.

The Swede is among the best strikers in the world, scoring 62 goals in just 109 appearances for Newcastle, and he could turn Liverpool into arguably the best team in Europe if he came in.

Intriguingly, Ornstein has strongly linked the Magpies with a move for Ekitike this summer, which, considering he is a similar type of player to Isak, could lead to some wondering if they are preparing to sell their star attacker.

That may not be the case, with Eddie Howe instead wanting two elite strikers in his squad, but it looks as though Liverpool’s interest in Isak isn’t going away.
