Liverpool FC Women Sign Midfielder Kirsty Maclean

The [Liverpool FC](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com) Women are undergoing significant changes this offseason. It was already know that the club would be hiring a new permanent manager and likely adding depth to a thin squad that was decimated by injuries last season. News of the departure of captain Taylor Hinds and likely world record sale of young phenom Olivia Smith have left supporters with doubts about the direction of the club as there has been very little news about incoming squad members.

The first bit of positive news for the Reds came on Monday when the club announced the first new signing of the summer. Kirsty Maclean was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player after completing a medical and signing her new contract with the club.

Maclean joins [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/) from Rangers in Scotland where she has made over 100 appearances despite having just turned 20 years old. The midfielder has twice been nominated for the PFA Scotland Women’s Young Player of the Year award, and was named to the league’s Team of the Year this past season. She also has made the jump to the Scotland National Team in 2023, and has made 10 full international appearances.

At her signing, Maclean described her excitement to get started with the club when preseason begins.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’m really excited to get going in pre-season and to meet all the girls, and hopefully we can start the season well.”

“I think the club speaks for itself. It’s obviously a massive club with a lot of history and to be able to represent the badge is a really proud moment for me.”

Maclean will help to bolster a currently thin midfield unit. Ceri Holland and Marie Höbinger both signed new contracts with the club, but the status of a new contract for Fuka Nagano is unclear, and both Sofie Lundgaard and Zara Shaw were dealt significant injury blows last season. Maclean is a self-proclaimed on-ball midfielder, known for her tidy play and passing vision.

“I’m a midfielder who likes to be on the ball and tries to make things happen so hopefully I can link up with the players in front of me and we can try to score lots of goals this season.”
